Celebrating 41 Years - Reflecting on a Life of Adulthood

I remember one thought that I had when I was in my 20s. I wanted to become older. Why? I played rugby in my 20s and I limed with players who were much older than I was. They made me feel "young" and my opinions were never taken seriously.

Today marks a special milestone in my life as I celebrate 41 years being alive. Now I am older, mature and respected as a life and relationship coach and soft skills trainer. I take this time on my birthday to reflect, give gratitude, and introspection as I look back on the journey of adulthood that has shaped me into the person I am today. It has been quite a journey and I am truly blessed. I have to acknowledge my siblings (3 women and 2 men - one of them now deceased) who have been a pillar of strength in helping me to be alive today. Especially to my sister, Josephine who although we don't always see eye to eye, has been the voice in my ear sharing information, opportunities and advice for which I am most grateful. My son, Ulysees (his home name), is also my pillar of strength and I cherish my time with him especially now that he is a grown man. I tell him to learn as much as he can from me as I will not be here forever.

Embracing Growth and Wisdom: Turning 61 reminds me of the incredible growth and wisdom that comes with age. Each passing year has offered valuable experiences, both good and bad, which have helped me evolve and become a wiser individual. From navigating career choices to building meaningful relationships, the lessons learned have laid the foundation for personal growth and self-discovery.

Balancing Responsibilities and Pursuing Passions: Adulthood often brings a myriad of responsibilities, including work, family, and other commitments. As I reflect on these 41 years, I recognize the importance of striking a balance between fulfilling obligations and pursuing my passions. It's essential to nurture our inner spark and find joy in the things that make us feel alive, even amidst the demands of daily life. Graduating as a Certified Professional Coach after 2yrs of study gave me such a sense of empowering considering that I did not go to University. I remember the words of my deceased boss, Winston Millette, who would always say to me - one thing that I admired about you was that you were always improving and educating yourself. He was my friend and gone to soon.

Cherishing Relationships: One of the greatest treasures of adulthood is the relationships we forge along the way. Whether it's the lifelong friendships or the deep connections with family, these bonds have brought immense love, support, and companionship into my life. I am constantly being reminded to cherish these relationships, nurture them, and express gratitude for the meaningful connections that have enriched my journey.

Embracing Change and Adaptability: Life is a constant cycle of change, and being an adult for 41 years has taught me the importance of embracing change and being adaptable. From career transitions to personal transformations, the ability to embrace uncertainty and adapt to new circumstances has been vital. It's through change that we find opportunities for growth and discover our true resilience.

Prioritizing Self-Care and Well-being: As the years pass, I've come to realize that self-care and well-being are essential for leading a fulfilling life. Taking care of my physical, mental, and emotional health has become a priority. It's crucial to carve out time for self-reflection, relaxation, and pursuing activities that bring joy and rejuvenation. Prioritizing self-care not only enhances personal well-being but also enables us to show up as our best selves for others.

Turning 61 is a significant milestone that allows me to reflect on the ups and downs, the lessons learned, and the growth experienced over the years. As I embark on another chapter of my life, I embrace the wisdom gained and look forward to the adventures and opportunities that lie ahead. Each year brings new lessons, and I am excited to continue embracing life's journey with open arms, an open heart, and a grateful spirit. I intend to enjoy many more years of growth, joy, and fulfillment on this remarkable planet we call home!
